ORGANIZATION: YMCA of Greater Kansas City

  • A group opportunity. Invite your friends.

The Providence YMCA Community Garden had a busy year of producing everything from radishes to pumpkins for the community to enjoy. The garden has finally ended its growing season and is in need of some serious TLC to prepare the gardens for next year's vegetable plantings. Volunteers are needed to help harvest the last of the vegetables to give tot he community as well as to clean out the 8 raised beds and do some maintenance to the garden area.

This is an outdoor event so volunteers will need to dress fro the weather. Volunteers will also need to wear closed toe shoes and clothing they don't mind getting a little dirty. Volunteers will be provided with gloves and water while they are working.

There are some gardening tools available, but it would be a help if volunteers could bring s few of their own tools to share while working. The Y recommends that all tools are visibly labeled with your name prior to bringing them in the garden area.

During the opportunity there will be a class of 4th graders coming to assist and after the garden clean out they will making some Halloween crafts to help decorate the building for the holiday. If you have any interest in helping facilitate the craft volunteers are welcome to hang around afterwards.

Parking is available in the Providence YMCA parking lot in front of the building. Volunteers can ask for Natalie at the welcome center desk when they check in.

If there is a chance of bad weather, volunteers will be notified the evening before whether or not the clean up will be canceled.
