Pittsburgh Walk to End Alzheimer's Day of Volunteer

Set-Up (5:30 AM Arrival) & Tear Down (11:00 AM Arrival)

  • This position may require heavy lifting as they will be unloading our truck. Additionally, these volunteers will assist with setting up tables and signage.
  • Volunteer Registration (6:00 AMArrival)

o We only need a small number of volunteers to help get our other volunteers checked in and to their locations.

  • Stop Here First (6:30 AMArrival)

o This will be our general registration area. Volunteers will man registration tables to get people their wristbands and into the event. Additionally, a few of these volunteers will assist with line flow. This will be a high volume area. We are looking for volunteers here to provide exceptional customer service.

  • Promise Garden (6:30 AMArrival)

o Every participant will receive a pinwheel flower in a color that corresponds with their connection to Alzheimer's. These volunteers will be responsible for passing out these flowers as well as putting together more flowers as needed. Additionally, these volunteers will assist with placing these in our promise garden.

  • Shirt Distribution (6:30 AMArrival)

o Every participant who has raised $100 will receive a shirt. Every participant who has raised $200 will receive a travel mug. These volunteers will oversee the distribution of these items.

  • Food (6:00 AMArrival)

o We provide complimentary snacks and beverages to our participants. These volunteers will help set up this area and replenish snacks as needed.

  • Greeters (6:30 AMArrival)

o Greeters will be responsible for welcoming people to the event, directing none registered participants to fill out registration forms, showing our pre-registered participants to the Wristband Express Entrance. They will have clipboards or registration forms to help get people to fill out registration forms before proceeding to the Stop Here First Area. This is ideal for people who are upbeat and outgoing.

  • Advocacy (6:45 AMArrival)

o These volunteers will be roaming the crowd asking participants to fill out a card that will be sent to their local representative to show their support of causes related to Alzheimer's

  • Directional Volunteers (7:00 AMArrival)

o These volunteers will be placed in high traffic areas to assist people with getting to where they go. This is a high customer service role.

  • Route Volunteers (6:30 AMArrival)

o These volunteers will assist with the distribution of signage along the route as well as be placed in necessary areas to assist the police with the closing of streets and sidewalks. 2 additional volunteers will be asked to help at a route photo station.

  • Champions Club (6:45 AMArrival)

o These volunteers will assist in supporting our special giveaways and activities in the Champions Club for Walk participants raising $500 or more

  • Start & Finish Line Volunteers (9:30 AMArrival)

o These are our walk cheerleaders! These volunteers will line both our start and finish line to cheer on our walkers. This needs be a high-energy group of volunteers. Come prepared to have fun!

The Association is the leading voice for Alzheimer's disease advocacy, making sure the need for Alzheimer's care, education and research is heard at every level of government, including Harrisburg.
