About

Seeking volunteers who are able to chaperone teenagers on outdoor camping trips over weekends in the Fall and Spring seasons. Participants are low-income minority youth from Alexandria VA who are part of the MPWRD after-school program. The trips are residential and each will run from Friday to Sunday. Volunteers must be comfortable with rugged, outdoor experiences including sleeping in tents and sleeping bags, creating campfires, exposure to the elements, and able to hike at least 2 miles. The camps are focused on outdoor recreation, social and team building skills therefore volunteers with experience in facilitating these activities are preferred. We are also seeking volunteers with experience cooking for outdoor camp settings. Though not required, we are interested in finding volunteers with rock climbing and rappelling experience/certification.
