Are you a woman in the Salt Lake area who's passionate about the outdoors? Looking for a meaningful volunteer opportunity to share this passion? Look no further than SheJumps!

Thanks to funding from the REI Force of Nature grant, from October 2017 until June 2018, SheJumps is teaming up with Hartland Community 4 Youth & Families, a SLC-based nonprofit, to provide outdoor adventures for girls between the ages of 10-17 from from low-income, immigrant, and refugee families. Beyond the PHYSICAL action of taking them outside on a trail, helping them learn to rock climb, or sharing the experience of skiing-volunteers must be willing to participate in this program as a mentor to these girls. This means being there to tell YOUR story about why YOU love the outdoors, and why you have decided to make it a part of your life. We do not expect that volunteers be professionals at any of the activities, but previous background is a plus. We expect you to support the girls on their journey to learn about the outdoors and themselves.

Specifically, we are looking for women who are willing to commit to a minimum of 60% of the events (approximately 6 events out of 10). It's important that a foundational relationship between the participants and the leaders is formed for maximum benefit and long-term activation of the program is realized. We highly recommend that you attend all events, and will make every effort to arrange the schedule of event so that goal is attainable. Events will be held on Friday afternoons (approximately 5 p.m. - 8 p.m.) or on Saturdays. Events will range from 3 hours to 8 hours, depending on the activity.

Volunteers will be selected based on their availability, demonstrated passion for outdoors, and commitment level.

A background check will be conducted for all selected volunteers.
Volunteers may be required to provide their own transportation to and from events.
Volunteers with a proficiency in Spanish are encouraged to apply.
Additional meetings or interviews may also be required if you are selected.
All volunteers will receive SJ hats & t-shirts as a thank you!

Mission Statement

Our mission is to increase female participation in outdoor activities.

Description

Everything we do is mission-based and is designed to create opportunities to Jump In, Jump Up, and Jump Out. This is your chance to get involved with the life you’ve always dreamed of--and share the one you’re living--with females in your local community and all over the world! We are here to create and share the new "cover girls;" the new inspiration of what it means to "jump" to reach your highest potential.

Our 'Get the Girls Out!’Program focuses on connecting girls and women in our communities with inspiring and dedicated female outdoor enthusiasts.

SheJumps Youth Initiatives are geared towards building life skills; empowering ownership and confidence through exposure to positive female role models, supportive communities and the outdoors . These programs exist to give girls and young women the opportunity to know what it’s like to have dirt under their feet, sun on their cheeks, and wind in their hair.

Our Outdoor Education programs focus on providing technical skills for all abilities and endeavors in the outdoors. This is our way of establishing and sharing our mission. All Initiatives facilitate educational opportunities that cater to the specific needs of each community.
