ORGANIZATION: ALAQUEST COLLABORATIVE FOR EDUCATION

Volunteers will facilitate the Life Skills Education Program in classrooms at either Alabama School of Fine Arts or Fairfield Elementary Schools.

The Life Skills Education Program consists of a curriculum with lessons centering around Social-Emotional Learning which provides children with skills such as making responsible decisions, team-building, identifying and managing emotions, and using empathy.

Volunteers require a background check and must commit to:
-a training day on August 31st, 2019 or September 14th, 2019.
-1 hour of in-school facilitation per month for 9 months, September 2019-May 2020 (unless otherwise agreed upon specific months.)

ACE, a non-profit in Birmingham, works to increase access to Social-Emotional Learning by implementing the Life Skills Education Program in local schools.

Social-Emotional Learning is the process through which individuals acquire the knowledge, attitudes, and skills necessary to understand and manage emotions, set and achieve positive goals, feel and show empathy for others, establish and maintain positive relationships and make responsible decisions.
