Job Title: Insights Intern / Volunteer
Department: Education and Prevention

SUMMARY

The Insights Intern/Volunteer co-facilitates support groups for adults who have experienced violent or abusive relationships. Groups combine educational components with therapeutic activities including art, meditation, and other healing-based skills and strategies. Topics include: exploring relationship dynamics, dealing with grief and loss, establishing healthy relationships, and rebuilding self-esteem. The Insights Intern/Volunteer also assists YWCA staff in conducting client in-takes for support groups.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Co-facilitates adult support groups utilizing a psycho-educational model and using the Insights program curricula
  • Exhibits appropriate group boundaries while providing general support to participants
  • Supports YWCA staff with program development, tracking and reporting
  • Assists program staff with preparation for community outreach and presentations
  • Upholds confidentiality laws and standards along with the principles of Advocacy Based Counseling (ABC) in accordance with WAC 388-61A, Chapter 70.123 RCW.
  • Participates in program staff meetings, all YWCA general meetings, and scheduled trainings
  • At least one day a week, conducts client in-takes for placement in support groups
  • Provides support as needed to reception staff

  • Passion for individuals, families and community members affected by domestic violence
  • Must be educationally minded, able to see and conduct oneself as a learner
  • Models language and behavior that is inclusive and respectful of all people, particularly those experiencing oppression or barriers to thriving
  • Understanding of how to work collaboratively as part of a diverse team
  • Easily adaptable to different situations and circumstances
  • Capable of receiving constructive feedback
  • Demonstrated commitment to the mission, vision and values of the YWCA Pierce County

OTHER QUALIFICATIONS

  • Acceptable Washington State Patrol Criminal History Record
  • Attend the YWCA’s Domestic Violence 101
  • May be currently enrolled as a student in a field such as Social Work, Human Services, Sociology, Psychology, Counseling, Interdisciplinary Studies, or a related field.

COMMITMENT
This position requires a 6 month commitment of volunteering; must be available on Wednesdays from 4 PM to 8 PM.
