Responsibilities and duties:

  • Field hotline calls/business calls
  • Provide emotional support to callers in crisis offering support, crisis intervention, referrals, information, and advocacy
  • Perform pre-screens with callers
  • Develop safety plans with callers
  • Work with diverse populations
  • Fill out appropriate paperwork
  • Assist the staff with front desk duties for residents (get their medication, check bags, etc.)
  • Maintain security of the safe house by monitoring who enters the building and greeting visitors
  • Provide referrals and resources to callers
  • Additional opportunities can include case management and assistance with domestic violence support groups.

Skills Needed:
Sensitivity to and concern for women and children in crisis; maturity and good judgment; Remain calm and effective while multitasking strong interpersonal skills; ability to listen without judging or advising; dependability; ability to handle more than one task at a time; and bilingual ability very helpful, especially in English/Spanish and English/Portuguese
