The Power of Girls is a self-esteem/leadership program for 250 CMS Title I middle school girls. The girls participating experience subjects and activities that allow them to learn about themselves; build self esteem, character, leadership, and life skills; learn how to participate and be a part of a team; and walk away with positive memories, skills and attitudes that will last a lifetime. Adolescence is a crucial time in life where decisions are made that sculpt the kind of adults our youth will become. The content of this program is designed to assist these girls in becoming strong, confident young women.
- Activities take place once a month on a Saturday, typically from 8:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m.
- Mentor training will be provided by Girl Scouts, Hornets’ Nest Council.
- Mentors must have a desire to interact with 12-16 year-old girls, listen to what they have to say, and be a positive influence in their lives without being judgmental.
- One-Two female mentors work with a team of approx. 10 girls throughout the school year

Description
When people think about Girl Scouts, they think crafts, cookies, and camp but a lot has changed in 103 years. Here at the Girl Scouts, Hornets’ Nest Council our girls get their hands dirty with bugs and bones, put their minds to work on science and engineering projects, challenge their body and minds with challenge courses and 5k’s, help breast cancer patients survive their toughest moments, and build lasting relationships with fellow Girl Scouts. We serve extraordinary girls in Anson, Cabarrus, Mecklenburg, Montgomery, Rowan, Stanly, Union and York counties and we are always in need of extraordinary adults to help our girls reach their full potential. Are you up for it?
