This is a great program for volunteers applying for or studying to become a teacher, or qualified teachers looking for a different challenge. If you have studied or are enthusiastic about teaching, you can be an invaluable aid to the Korando Educational Centre.

Even if you have not or do not plan to study teaching, don’t be put off. Education can be done through many different approaches, and as long as you are willing to follow the lead of local staff, you can always help. Just make sure to bring all your commitment and enthusiasm. As it can take some time to settle in, take on board the cultural differences and learn about teaching styles and the structure of classes, we recommend volunteering of at least 3 weeks long. The Korando Educational Centre is a 3 grades nursery school and 8 grades primary school. The kids benefiting from the free education of the Centre are between three and twenty-five years old.

You can build on the experience of previous volunteers who created a didactical material library with activities for the children, so you don’t have to be scared of running out of ideas. They worked with the kids before and documented the wealth of experience. We will appreciate if you also keep a record of the activities and ideas you bring with you, enriching the experience of other volunteers coming in the future.

We want you also to consider how this position can help you improve yourself. The methodology of teaching through experiences, educating through arts and other non- formal methods is very valuable and appreciated. Working with Korando kids won’t only lead to them growing and developing themselves, but will also let you challenge yourself by implementing ideas that might be completely new for you.
