Pottery Studio Clay Mixer

We’re looking for an enterprising ceramics student who would like to better understand the CAW clay body, learn how it’s blended, work with the raw materials, and operate our onsite VPM-60 power wedger.

No experience is necessary. The applicant just needs to be willing to learn, and reliably mix/recycle clay on a regular basis (year round) for general studio use. All necessary training and safety instruction will be provided. Strength is not particularly important; clay is loaded by hand at a rate comfortable for either male or female interns. Hours are completely flexible after a period of training and probation show the applicant has become a proficient clay mixer. Beyond that point, the internship could continue indefinitely with the benefits below, as long as the associated duties continue to be reliably performed.

The clay mixer must be dependable: keep a continual eye on the clay recycle containers; and when ready, roll the barrels of clay slop/wetted trimmings to the kiln room; load into the pug mill; mix with dry blend; extrude clay logs; load them into new clay barrels; and return the barrels to the student area after processing.

Benefits: - One free CAW pottery course each semester.
- Unlimited use of the studio for personal work whenever a class is not in session.
