Read to a kindergarten student at Sparr Elementary on Tuesday and/or Thursday from 9:00 -9:30 a.m.
You will read to one student a book that is above grade level to give broader background knowledge and exposure to a richer vocabulary. There are questions and answers in the back of the book to engage the student in conversations about the book. This book will be given to the student for their private library and extends the classroom to the home setting. A student could potentially be given 20 books for their private collection by the end of the school year. Check out the videos about the program on the United Way of Marion County's website, www.uwmc.org, for more details.
Volunteer workshops can be provided to groups of five or more at a location of their choice with internet access. Workshops are currently scheduled at the United Way of Marion County and at Master the Possibilities Education Center.
