Full-immersion experiential learning program in rural Africa in our Arts Village Community in Ghana.

If you are a student, you can participate for internships, thesis or research on a special topic for college credits. We also welcome faculty-led curricular projects at our rural community. We issue a Certificate of Participation at the end of the program.

DESIGN-BUILD EARTH ARCHITECTURE PROJECTS:

Come join us as we use traditional Earth construction methods to build an artist-in-residence community center for weaving.

Experience a new culture and be part of a collaborative environment. You will be involved in all aspects of construction such as building foundation, wall construction, roofing and landscaping of the completed unit.

At the end of your stay, you must have mastered a construction method such as rammed earth, mud brick or cob construction through participation in building workshops.

Volunteers can take part in some of the social events in the everyday life of the community, such as traditional festivals, community labor, worship, and meetings to gain new skills. Mission Statement

Nka Foundation exists to serve underserved communities in Africa and similar places with a focus on the arts and design.

Description

Nka Foundation began in 2005 and exists to serve underserved communities in Africa through projects in the arts and architecture. We do this by creating a network of arts villages where the global community comes to engage in projects to inspire the needy communities to sustainable development. Nka Foundation’s arts village projects draw on asset-based approach to community development through the tapping of existing, but often unrecognized abundant local resources to help the rural community drive their development process. This involves creative research and use of local materials and vernacular methods used in the region to create arts and design products.

Throughout the year, the Foundation organizes international workshops that invite volunteer-sending organizations, university students, arts and design professionals and international development experts to immerse in the local lifestyle and collaborate with the local people on projects for exchange of knowledge and skills.

Nka is looking to partner with like-minded organisations, companies and community-spitited individuals from around the globe. Contact: info@nkafoundation.org / www.nkafoundation.org
