DESCRIPTION
Volunteer will work with patrons of all ages with hands-on activities including instruction and guidance in using tools and equipment; assisting staff or outside instructors in hands-on workshops; and facilitating community groups and meetup groups.
All volunteer times occur at 6 Garden Center and training will be provided. Session topics and volunteer interest or expertise are preferred in any or all if the following areas:
- Electronics and Soldering
- Circuits, Arduino
- Computers and Media Creation
- 3D Printing
- Laser Cutting, Vinyl Cutters
- Photo Editing
- Coding and Programming languages
- Textiles and Fiber Arts
- Sewing (hand and machine)
- Yarn (knitting or crocheting)
- Textiles (spinning, weaving, etc)
- Needle Arts (embroidery)
- Woodworking
- Handtools
- Drills and Jigsaw
- CNC Router
- Paper Crafts
- Bookbinding
- Paper-making
- Printing, stamping, embossing, etc
- Any other Craft or Maker expertise
Volunteer must be qualified and able to commit to a set schedule. Volunteer should enjoy working with the public including students of all ages, families, and adults.
TIME COMMITMENT AND SCHEDULE
Volunteer must make a minimum of a three (3) month commitment. Open hours are generally:
- Weekdays (T,W,TH,F): 4:00 - 8:30pm
- Weekdays (TBD): 11:30am - 1:30pm
- Saturdays: 9:00am - 5:00pm
- Sundays: 1:00pm-5:00pm
TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Work within specific program guidelines as stated above. Follow direction from library staff on planned activities and availability and use of equipment and resources. Notify coordinator of any changes in time or schedule. Record your own volunteer hours and provide feedback about each session in a Google Docs spreadsheet.
TRAINING, SUPERVISION, AND SUPPORT
Library staff will communicate with volunteers via email or phone and will be working alongside volunteers during each shift.
REQUIREMENTS
Knowledge and experience with craft and maker topics, interest, patience, and ability to teach and work with all ages. Volunteer application and Disclosure Form background check are required as well as a resume or statement showing qualifications in these subject areas. An interview will be conducted. The applicant must be at least 18 years of age and must pass the background check prior to assignment.
