Trunk or Treat
Trunk or Treat at Monterey. Look how fun we look!

When we setup our very first Trunk or Treat last year at Monterey Elementary, I don't think we truly had any idea how important and special it would be for our families. Parents have already been expressing how happy and appreciative they are to have a safe neighborhood Halloween activity for their families to participate in. Some of our students are refugees and have never experienced Halloween before. Many of our students told us that it was their best Halloween EVER.... but we only had about 6 cars.

That's where we were hoping you would come in. Our teachers are SUPER fun- and we would love it if you would join us in decorating your car/trunk and help make this Halloween even more special for our students and neighborhood! There are lots of family friendly ideas on Pinterest! Yard games are welcome. (Alcohol and cigarettes are not). Candy is ALWAYS welcome. We will provide some bags, as well, but it would be great to have a wonderful variety.

Please help us make Monterey's Trunk or Treat the best yet!

Mission Statement

Monterey Elementary is a culturally diverse neighborhood school with resources that include pre-kindergarten, all-day kindergarten and offers transportation to a before- and-after-school program. Our curriculum meets the needs of our culturally diverse student population by providing a variety of programs and teaching strategies aligned with the Colorado State standards.

Description

Our Educators

Dedicated staff members at Monterey Elementary provide students with the opportunity to pursue a wide variety of academic, athletic, scientific and artistic endeavors.

The Literacy and Math Programs at Monterey Elementary enable teachers to utilize effective research-based instructional strategies to maximize learning for all students. We are able to provide ongoing staff development through the Colorado Reading First Grant and District initiatives that support teachers in using best practices in instruction. Academic and extra-curricular programs include:

  • SuccessMaker Computer Reading and Math Program
  • Full Day Kindergarten
  • Accelerated Reading
  • STARReading and Math
  • Counseling Groups (Personal/Social and Academic)
  • Tutoring
  • Art Club

While there is still work to be done on raising student achievement, Monterey students have made great gains in academic growth according to the Longitudinal Student Growth Model measurement used by the Colorado Department of Education.

Our Students

Our students are proud to be Monterey Mustangs! Monterey staff and students build meaningful relationships to promote student achievement and encourage our kids to do their best. Students are challenged daily to apply their reading and writing skills through activities that require high levels of critical thinking.

In addition to our students, our community includes many extended family members. We welcome parents, grandparents and others to become part of the Monterey Family.
