ORGANIZATION: Faith in Action of Solano

Logo

Newly diagnosed cancer survivors deal with a myriad of treatment options and medical appointments, often feeling isolated. Faith in Action provides support to newly diagnosed survivors by matching them with volunteers who also may be survivors themselves. Volunteers provide emotional support, help in getting cancer survivors to medical treatment, grocery shopping, prepare meals, visit regularly, and make phone reassurance calls. Volunteers provide up to 4 hours of assistance per week.

Mission Statement

What We Do: Faith in Action, now in its 21st year of service in Solano County, is a volunteer-based, interfaith-based nonprofit that provides services to seniors 60 years and older who are frail, living with chronic illnesses, or homebound. The agency seeks to end the isolation, promote the independence, and sustain the dignity of homebound seniors throughout Solano County. The agency has more than 800 registered seniors, with approximately 125-150 volunteers assisting them during any given month. Volunteers are integral to meeting the needs of our seniors. Volunteers are the heart and backbone of the agency. Who We Are: The agency provides non-acute, non-medical in-home support services to homebound seniors. All services are provided by volunteers. Services can include transportation to and from medical or social service appointments, transportation to life enhancement activities, grocery shopping, phone reassurance, home visits, in-home peer counseling, support groups either in person or by teleconference, light house cleaning, yard work, and respite for family caregivers. All services are subsidized through grants or government contracts; donations are accepted. No one is turned away for lack of funds.
