Education in Cambodia differs greatly from that in the developed world, public schools are heavily underfunded, and often suffer from years of neglect. But none of that seems to matter to the kids, and their positive outlook and thirst for education is like nothing you have seen before.

Cambodian children are eager to learn, and its not uncommon for them to get up before sunrise to attend English classes or to find students sharpening their language skills in our small library project.

Our village hosts three English language classes per day with children of varying levels. Younger students pursue learning the alphabet and simple concepts, while young teenagers begin reading and writing with simple homework assignments, as well as students preparing to enter university.

Volunteers will be working side-by-side with the local English teacher for hour long classes that take place up to three times a day. There are always opportunities to present lessons, create lesson plans, and coordinate activities with the three English classes.

We encourage our volunteers to bring materials, or plan to purchase materials before heading to the village, as basic teaching materials can be hard to find in the rural setting.
