Become a Guest Chef to help Feed the House:

New Yearlong Partnership with Giant Food Aimed at Providing Healthy Meals for Families Coping with Critically Ill Children

After a long day at the hospital, our families find there is nothing better than walking into Ronald McDonald House to find a home-cooked meal.

In an effort to promote health, wellness and giving back locally, Giant Food’s Registered Dietitian team created month long meal plans volunteers can follow to offer families staying in the DC area houses a varied menu of healthy and delicious options. Meal plans also include breakfast and dessert ideas, as well as menu items tailored for the season. These meal plans will be available to volunteers in each house as well as online.

In addition to providing the recipe and shopping list, Giant Food is also making it easier for volunteers by providing $20 gift cards to groups cooking meals for RMHCDC families. Ronald McDonald House managers will mail the gift cards to volunteer groups ahead of their scheduled volunteer day, while supplies last.

Sign up today with your friends, family, coworkers or social club and provide a warm meal for the families staying at Ronald McDonald House. Review our Meal Program Guidelines for more information and look through the Giant Food RMHCDC Spring-Summer Cookbook for recipe ideas.

To help us maintain a quiet and relaxed refuge for our families, please limit your group size to no more than 8 people, age 14 and above.

Other Group Opportunities:

It takes a village to keep a Ronald McDonald House up and running. There are many on-site and off-site opportunities for your group! Making grab-n-go bags filled with snacks and activities is always a popular idea and a hit with the families! Other ideas include helping with household chores and yard work, or even hosting a Wish List drive! Find out more about how your group can help the families at Ronald McDonald House by checking out our Volunteer Opportunities for Groups.

Become a Weekly Volunteer:

Our Weekly Volunteers are the backbone and heart of our Ronald McDonald House. The caring and cheerful volunteers are the first voices families hear on the phone and the first smiling face they see at the door. We depend on our volunteers to keep the House running and to help us provide a comfortable and supportive home-away-from-home for our guests.

Weekly Volunteer positions are an on-going weekly commitment for a minimum of 6 months. Weekly volunteers work one 2-3 hour shift the same day each week and must be over 18 years old.

Mission Statement

Ronald McDonald House Charities of Greater Washington, DC, a non-profit, 501 (C) (3), eases the hardship of children’s illness on families through programs that directly improve the health and wellbeing of children.

Description

We help families struggling with problems like how to stay near and support a hospitalized child, how to afford staying together in another city while a child is undergoing treatment, or even how to get basic medical care in a vulnerable community. We provide solutions for these and other issues related to easing the hardship of children’s illness on families through three core programs that focus on the critical needs of children, celebrating the diversity of the donors who make them possible, staying true to our heritage of responsible stewardship, and operating with accountability and transparency.

Our programs offer help and hope where children need it most - right in their own communities. RMHCDC makes an immediate, positive impact on children's lives in many ways. By volunteering, you can help make that happen.
