Are you a math whiz interested in helping others in the community? We are looking for bilingual math tutors to work one-on-one with English and Spanish-speaking adults preparing for the Math portion of the GED this fall. Volunteers will be provided with tutor training, lesson plans, and ongoing support from the GED program director during the weekly 2-hour sessions. Many GED candidates struggle to pass the math portion of the test and individualized support can make all the difference in the world! Click on this link for an example of the type of math you will be tutoring: http://www.gedpracticequestions.com/ged-math/

We are looking for tutors who speak both English and Spanish and are comfortable tutoring math in either language. Tutors must attend class every week, missing no more than two classes over the course of the semester.

Fall semester sessions to choose from (fall semester ends Dec 15):

  • 6:00-8:00pm Thursday nights at Literacy Network
  • 10:00am-12pm Friday mornings at Literacy Network

Tutor Requirements

  • Comfortable tutoring algebra, geometry, probability and statistics, percentages, fractions, and word problems in English or Spanish.
  • Able to share effective study and test-taking strategies.
  • Mature, dependable, patient, and kind.
  • Non-judgmental and interculturally sensitive.
