Moldova is a truly unique country with a soviet past, land-locked between Romania and the Ukraine. As a result of the economic crisis following the collapse of the Soviet Union, Moldova remains one of Europe's poorest countries.
Are you ready to make a difference?
We are looking for volunteers who can make a difference in Moldova, playing and offering one-to-one interaction to children who are residents in a state run orphanage in the capital city of Chisinau.
As the staffing levels are low, the children do not receive the same amount of stimulation or personal contact that children who grow up in a family receive. Developmental delays and long term affects of institutional care has been widely documented, they show that children who do not receive enough eye contact, physical contact, and mental stimulation, can result in delayed physical, social and cognitive development. This is why the role of our volunteers is so essential, you truly get to make a direct difference, whether it be colouring, pushing swings or just for walks around the grounds of the institution. You are providing one-to-one interaction that a child would simply not otherwise get. We do not ask for special skills or specific degrees, we are looking for volunteers who can play with the residents, encourage them to come out of themselves, to laugh and have fun.
