ORGANIZATION: Focus: HOPE

Focus: HOPE is currently looking for an AmeriCorps VISTA to join the Volunteer and Community Outreach Department. Application Deadline 9/22/2017

AmeriCorps VISTA (Volunteers in Service to America) is a national program with a mission to strengthen organizations that alleviate poverty through volunteering and the mobilization of resources. AmeriCorps VISTA members serve full time (40 hours/week) for 1 year of service at a community organization on anti-poverty projects. AmeriCorps VISTA members receive a living allowance during their term of service. Learn more about AmeriCorps VISTA HERE.

AmeriCorps VISTA Member Duties:
Assist with training of volunteers, coordinating workshops, creating and administering surveys, coordinating and providing access to resources for parents, and supporting Early Learning recruitment events. Ultimately, the VISTA member will focus on helping to bridge the gap between teachers and parents.

  • Computers/Technology- Knowledge of or ability to learn new technologies (ie: Office 365, Flickr, Google Docs, MailChimp, CERVIS- Volunteer Database, PowerPoint, Excel).
  • Communications/Writing and Editing- Create Volunteer Newsletters and flyers, write engaging volunteer recruitment posts, provide material for social media.
  • Leadership & Team Work- Ability to collaborate with co-workers, parents and volunteers.

Focus: HOPE is a human service organization. Founded in 1968 in the wake of the 1967 Detroit riots by Father Willam T. Cunningham (1930-1997) and co-founder Eleanor M. Josaitis (1931-2011), Focus: HOPE unites a multicultural community in common efforts to overcome injustice and build racial harmony. Over the years, Focus: HOPE has initiated practical solutions to the problems of hunger, economic disparity, inadequate education, and racial divisiveness. Answers can be found in Focus: HOPE's technology training programs, educational and corporate partnerships, and food programs.
