Position overview: In this role, you will support research, pilot projects, and advocacy to expand low-to-moderate income households' access to community solar. More than 50% of Americans currently face little to no opportunity to participate in renewable energy owing to their income and credit status. You’ll work alongside our Senior Program Manager for LMI Inclusion on our Department of Energy (DOE) award to devise and implement alternative credit metrics to increase energy equity and grow the solar pie - and stand up some of the first low-income community solar projects in the country.

Responsibilities will include:

  • Assisting on all matters related to delivering on our DOE grant, including but not limited to grant reporting, data analysis and modeling, drafting of white papers, and research to identify partners for pilot projects
  • Support drafting and submission of feedback to NY state government bodies regarding community solar low/moderate-income incentives
  • Attendance at conferences, meetings, and actions in NY as relevant
  • Note-taking and summaries of key calls and meetings

As a Financial Inclusion Fellow, you will gain:

  • Statistical modeling and policy advocacy experience in a rapidly growing field in the solar industry
  • Experience working with large federal grants and managing reporting requirements, as well as access to Department of Energy staff
  • Experience working on energy justice issues and policy advocacy
  • Significant ownership and autonomy in your work
  • A deep understanding of the solar and renewables energy space
  • Hands on startup experience in cleantech

Qualifications:

  • College-level knowledge of statistics and statistical modeling software
  • Interest in renewable, affordable energy or environmental justice
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and communicate effectively
  • Minimum 20 hours a week to contribute to this program (Full-time preferred)
  • Excited to work in a fast-paced startup environment
  • Team player mentality and positive attitude

Based in the greater Boston area.

About Solstice Initiative

Location:

50 Foskett St, Unit 2, Somerville, MA 02144, US

Mission Statement

Putting solar power within reach of every person in the United States, especially the renters and low-income households that are currently shut out of the market.

Description

Solstice Initiative is the first provider of community-based solar energy to underserved Americans.

Problem:

Solar has the potential to power neighborhoods across the United States, but 80% of American households are effectively locked out of the market. Those who rent their homes, are low-income, have inadequate credit, or possess a non-optimal roof need an affordable and accessible solution.

Solution:

With our help, community-shared solar power is poised to offer a solution for these households. Community solar allows households to purchase and benefit from a portion of an offsite solar farm in their neighborhood.

Solstice will eventually finance, build, and sell community-based solar to the 45 million lower-income Americans who rent their homes. This model enables any household to enjoy clean energy at no upfront cost and save money on their electric bill every month.
