Mentoring USA's mission is to create sustained and supportive mentor relationships for underserved youth ages 7-21. Changes in family structure and neighborhood networks have increased the time youth are spending unsupervised. More and more young people are facing pressures and risks alone. You can empower a child to believe in themselves, and fulfill their potential!
Mentors are matched with youth. With trained adult mentors who can guide in developing better self-esteem, creating healthy relationships, and making positive life choices, our underserved youth have the opportunity to grow up healthier. Mentoring provides support to the residents through activities promoting healthy choices, leadership and building self-esteem. In partnership with HELP USA, we serve youth from their permanent housing facility.
Mentors and mentees meet in a supervised environment at a set time and location.

Mission Statement
Mentoring USA (www.mentoringusa.org) is a leading national site-based mentoring organization providing one-to-one trained adult mentors to youth in need to enable young people to achieve their potential. Mentoring USA pairs at-risk youth across the country with trained adult mentors who can guide them in developing healthy lifestyles and better self-esteem, appreciating diversity, achieving academic and personal success, and making positive life choices
Description
In 1987 a statewide, non-partisan committee chaired by Matilda Raffa Cuomo, then First Lady of New York, established the New York State Mentoring Program. This initiative was developed in response to New York's alarming school drop out rates and teenage pregnancy. The program grew successfully from 1987 to 1995 and laid the groundwork for what would one day become Mentoring USA. Volunteer mentors were trained, screened, and matched with children in New York Schools, and similar to today's Mentoring USA programs, mentoring occurred on-site at the respective schools. In 1995 Mentoring USA became a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization. Since its inception, Mentoring USA has provided mentors for more than 5,000 children.
