Care for our Mississippi River together, and get to know people who work or live downtown. Good for your community, good for your environment, and good for you!

You can help plant native prairie flowers and grasses, clear invasive plants, and clean up our riverfront parks, while learning about the area from National Park Service rangers and Mississippi River community leaders.

The Minnesota Environmental Fund, your local giving partner with Minnesota workplaces, is teaming up with Mississippi Park Connection and Mississippi National River and Recreation Area to support this volunteer experience for people who work or live downtown.

Arrive ready to work at 1 pm

  • 1-1:20: Sign-in and introduction
  • 1:20-2:30: Service activity: Plant, remove an invasive plant and do a river clean-up
  • 2:30-3:00: Interpretation and break
  • 3:00-3:45: Service activity: Plant, remove an invasive plant and do a river clean-up
  • 3:45-4:00: Closing and thank you, followed by walk to local eagle nest and/or group outing at local restaurant or bar

Preparations: Gloves and bags are provided by the Minneapolis Park and Recreation Board, which asks each participant to sign a waiver before starting. Please wear warm clothing and close-toed shoes appropriate for an outdoor activity on natural and uneven surfaces, and bring water to drink.

Mission Statement

The Minnesota Environmental Fund engages individuals and workplaces to support leading nonprofit organizations that protect, conserve, and restore Minnesota’s environment. We make it easy to care for our environment by giving, volunteering, and learning.

Description

  • The Minnesota Environmental Fund (MEF) makes it easy for people at work to protect, conserve and restore Minnesota’s environment.
  • Clean water, natural areas, clean air and healthy food are many of the benefits of supporting MEF.
  • MEF is the only Minnesota nonprofit organization supporting people at work giving, volunteering, and learning about our environment.
  • More than 100 employers, including businesses, government agencies, and nonprofit organizations, participate in employee giving and volunteering initiatives statewide. As a result, more than $13 million has been raised since 1991, supporting the leading nonprofits that protect, conserve and restore our environment.
  • Through MEF, employees can pledge an amount to donate each pay period to support organizations of their choice. Contributions can be designated to one or more specific organizations or can be divided equally among all member organizations.
  • It’s easy to add the MEF workplace giving campaign. MEF staff will help you every step of the way and will handle disbursement of funds to designated environmental organizations.
