We are looking for a highly energized and service-minded individual to join the Red Cross AmeriCorps team as the Disaster Volunteer Coordinator! This is a full-time national service role focused on supporting, coordinating, and training the Red Cross's adult and youth volunteers so they can support national disaster relief efforts, such as Hurricane Harvey and Irma.
Red Cross AmeriCorps members are creative, passionate, and dedicated individuals that serve in a full-time capacity for 10.5 months at American Red Cross chapters across the Los Angeles Region,. Position Description:
The Disaster Volunteer Coordinator AmeriCorps member is responsible for overseeing 'The Volunteer Experience’ for disaster volunteers serving in the region. They oversee the on-boarding, training, and deployment of volunteers within the Red Cross's Disaster Cycle Services.
Duties Include:
- Trains and deploys Red Cross volunteers for national disasters, such as Hurricane Harvey and Irma
- Plans volunteer growth experiences, leadership opportunities and volunteer career development
- Provides consultation, coaching and training resources to keep volunteer community engaged and excited
- Serves as a point of contact for reassignment or referring volunteers to other departments
- Works with all Red Cross departments on volunteer recruitment, training, engagement, and recognition
Qualifications Include:
- Able to build relationships with volunteers, staff and partners
- Strong tech skills, especially in Excel
- Enthusiastic about the Red Cross mission and programs
- Proven leadership in past volunteer, school or career roles
- Cultural sensitivity to diverse audiences
- Works well both individually and with others
- Understands the value of volunteers and provides leadership and support to ensure volunteers receive a rewarding experience
