Cutchins Programs for Children and Families’ Victory Lap 5K Fun Run and 2K Walk is a fundraiser and celebration supporting our very first capital campaign. Cutchins Programs is poised to advance sensory learning solutions for every one of the children we serve. A little over a year ago, Cutchins Programs embarked on our very first capital campaign-to incorporate sensory integration treatment modalities in each of our programs. Today we have reached 80% of our goal!

Cutchins is recognized nationally for our creative and powerful work in the field of children’s mental health. Recently, great strides have been made in learning how sensory modulation strategies help children suffering from trauma and other mental health problems and Cutchins is a leader in incorporating these treatment strategies into our program of care. Nevertheless, our facilities were old and lacking in sensory equipment. The Sensory & Fitness Campaign will dramatically increase the tools available to treat these children and give them skills necessary to heal.

Renovation work on our gym is almost done and we are busy installing specialized sensory equipment. Once completed this facility will a house traditional gym, a multi-purpose center, and large scale equipment for sensory activities. We will install playground structures at our residential programs in Northampton and Springfield to provide sensory-rich play where children can focus on gross motor skills, motor planning, and social/imaginative play. We are working on the creation of sensory rooms for each of our residences where children and youth can continue their skills training beyond classroom time. Creating an Art Therapy Studio in The Children’s Clinic is also included in this campaign. By adapting an existing space in our clinic we will provide tools to treat the youngest of our children-many suffering from severe trauma-as well as create a new space to treat more children.

Mission Statement

Children Hold Our Future Our mission is to help children and families transform significant emotional distress into increased resilience, hope and quality of life. Using clinical sophistication and expertise we incorporate humility, kindness, and passion to create a community of care. We seek to support the healing process with innovation and integrity, and to serve as a model for best and promising practices. Our clinicians, teachers, and staff hold a willingness to look deeply--to learn and to play.

Description

For almost 40 years Cutchins Programs for Children & Families has created a small, interpersonal, radically respectful environment in which the long-term impact of trauma, emotional, and behavioral challenges can be recognized and treated; and where families and children can find a caring, nonjudgmental and supportive atmosphere.

Cutchins has always stood for protecting childhood, one child at a time. We continue to provide families in Western Massachusetts with exceptional outpatient care, residential treatment, in-home care, and alternative schooling to children and adolescents with severe emotional disturbance. In an ever changing environment of children’s mental health, Cutchins is taking a leadership role to orient care and services around the needs of families and not the other way around. The world is hungry for the soulful kindness and clinical sophistication for which Cutchins is known. Our vision is to proactively promulgate these attributes into the world to create a skilled, loving, non-stigmatized community for those most in need.

Cutchins Programs specializes in treating trauma in children, sensory processing disorders, co-occurring emotional and autism spectrum disorders. Cutchins Programs are recognized for our restraint reduction and trauma informed care and we are leaders in providing children and adolescents with integrated wraparound treatments such as in-home, narrative therapy, and dialectical behavior therapy (DBT.)
