ORGANIZATION: Men Alive - The Orange County Gay Men's Chorus

The Stage Manager plans for and participates in all technical production meetings. They plan and manage the set construction and stage crew and interacts with all other OCGMC departments. The Stage Manager must have the ability to work cooperatively with a variety of people, work within deadlines, maintain confidentiality, and work with a sense of professionalism and decorum.

Overall Responsibilities:

  • Assist Production Manager in overseeing the performance of the entire show.
  • Productions may include special events and rentals as well as regular performance season, events, and productions.
  • Manage stage crew schedules and activities for all performances
  • Maintain production warehouse
  • Provide backup to the Production Manager as required

Performance Responsibilities:

  • Attend a minimum of chorus & dance rehearsals
  • Attend all rehearsals during production week
  • Attend all production meetings
  • Assist the Production Manager in running production week rehearsals
  • Oversee set construction personnel and schedule
  • Communicating the Production Manager’s wishes to designers and crafts people
  • Draw up microphone plot
  • Draw up furniture and prop plans if needed
  • Coordinating the work of the stage crew
  • Man the Stage Manager position off stage and maintain communication with all stage crew
  • Calling cues and possibly actors' entrances during performance
  • Manage set changes
  • Represent OCGMC and manage the strike activities after major season performances

Qualifications:

  • Strong organizational & problem-solving skills, and a quick learner
  • A basic understanding of all the technical demands of a production: lights, sound, props, and set changes
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
  • Ability to train and work well with non-skilled volunteers
  • Ability to encourage and lead a large number of people to achieve a high standard of backstage discipline while keeping a firm, kind, polite, respectful, and calm manner

Description

MenAlive - Orange County Gay Men's Chorus was founded in September 2001 by Rich Cook with 13 singers.
Today, wIth more than 130 members and a support team of 50 plus volunteers, MenAlive has grown into one of Orange County's largest choruses as well as an active and respected partner in Southern California's arts scene.

MenAlive is more than Arts and Entertainment. We promote understanding and acceptance for the LGBT community, countering the fear and discrimination that threatens all of society, especially youth. We do this through the love of performance, community outreach and friendship.

The Chorus is run by a volunteer Board of Directors and is a 501(c)3 non-profit arts organization.
