Friends of Willow is dedicated to providing rescue, shelter, medical care, and spay/neuter services for abandoned, abused, or neglected rabbits in Southern Maine. The mission of Friends of Willow is to (1) place all of these rabbits into permanent and loving, safe indoor homes and to (2) educate the public regarding companion rabbit care, the benefits of adopting, and the importance of spaying and neutering.

Position Detail

Job Description:

We are currently looking for a Volunteer Coordinator to join our team. The Volunteer Coordinator is responsible for selecting, training, and supervising the volunteers of the organization.


When Coordinators embrace their responsibilities, commit to engage productively, and contribute generously to serve the best interests of the FOW, they can accomplish great things in achieving the mission and the organization’s greater potential. Serving as a Coordinator for FOW can provide an extraordinary opportunity for an individual who is passionate about improving the lives of animals.


Responsibilities:

  • Recruitment
    • Use a variety of methods to attract suitable volunteer candidates
    • Post volunteer opportunities online or attend events with the hope of meeting new volunteers
    • Interview potential volunteers to determine if they are a good fit for the organization
  • Training
    • Provide comprehensive training to volunteers of the organization
    • Conduct orientation sessions, provide background information on the organization and help new volunteers get settled into their roles
    • Teach volunteers new skills needed to perform their roles
  • Reporting
    • Maintain a comprehensive database of volunteer information
    • Collect data from volunteers and provide detailed reports when requested by the Board of Directors
  • Scheduling
    • Work closely with volunteers to come up with a schedule that works for everyone
    • Ensure the right number of volunteers are available for any events planned
  • Planning
    • Anticipate that some volunteers stay longer than others and plan accordingly
  • Supervising
    • Supervise the entire volunteer force

Duties:

  • Represent the organization in and to the community
  • Be aware of the organization's program priorities
  • Exercise due care in overseeing the activities of the organization
  • Be willing to work respectfully
  • Correct and take responsibility for errors and oversights
  • Be accessible to staff and to others BOD members
  • Make a two ‐ year commitment to serving on the organization.

Qualifications:

  • Excellent communication and writing skills
  • Ability to maintain a respectable tone when representing FOW
  • Willing to make a commitment to the organization’s mission and goals
  • Reliable access to online email, drive, and database platforms
  • An affinity for cultivating relationships, building consensus among diverse individuals, and inspiring action
  • Understanding that participation requires a high level of commitment and time
  • A collaborative decision-maker
  • Able to exercise appropriate judgment and oversight

Description

Friends of Willow was founded in 2011 by a group of individuals sharing a love of rabbits and with a common interest in rescuing and rehabilitating domestic rabbits. Friends of Willow is made up entirely of volunteers who dedicate time, money, and energy to move Friends of Willow toward its goals. Friends of Willow Board Members average over 10 years of experience with rabbits and many have core animal sheltering experience. Friends of Willow Members use their knowledge and skills to educate the public about proper rabbit care and sustaining a healthy relationship with rabbit family members.

As a 501(c)(3) tax exempt organization, Friends of Willow is eligible to receive tax-deductible charitable contributions!

Friends of Willow operates out of the Greater Portland area.

Friends of Willow strives to support our local community and area shelters as well as the Greater New England region.
