Please visit the new page to apply.
Position
The California Film Institute is looking for high-energy, dependable, organized team players to assist in driving visiting filmmakers during their stay at the 40th Mill Valley Film Festival (October 5-15, 2017). Volunteer drivers take direct instruction from the Transportation team to drive filmmakers to and from local airports, film screenings, and MVFF special events.
The highest demand for drivers is during the festival, October 5-15. However, a handful of shifts on Oct 4 and Oct 16 will also be needed. Availability and flexibility during this time period is necessary. We are asking for a minimum commitment of 3 shifts, though there is no limit on the maximum number of shifts. Shifts are on average 6 hours long, but you may work an hour more or less depending on the day.
Vehicles
The volunteer driver system at the festival is dependent on participants providing their own cars. Vehicles need to be most importantly safe, neat, and kept clean (inside and out) for the duration of usage at the festival. MVFF will provide insurance coverage for driving related to assignments. Reimbursement for the following on shift expenditures will be mailed shortly after the end of the festival:
- Mileage - at the 2017 rate of $0.55 per mile
- Tolls
- Parking
Benefits
- Receive 2 MVFF voucher codes per shift (with a 10 voucher code maximum). Vouchers codes will be distributed during each shift.
- Volunteers that work 42+ hours (7+ shifts) will receive California Film Institute staff benefits:
- 10 ticket vouchers sent via email pre-fest. These vouchers can be used to make film selections online before the start of the festival
- 2018 CFI Associate Membership
Qualifications
- Ability to execute detailed directions into on-time guest pickups and dropoffs
- Successful with minimal supervision
- Ability to multitask and remain patient. Comfortable with last minute changes.
- Ability to exercise discretion when dealing with confidential information
- Friendly and personable but knows when to stay quiet based on passenger interest
- Ability to express oneself clearly, professionally, and politely
- Valid driver’s license with clean DMV record, safe driving practices (no hands-on phone activities, eating while driving, etc)
- Familiarity with driving in the Bay Area
