TITLE: Health Educator Intern

GENERAL SUMMARY: The Health Educator Internship is a part of Needs Beyond Medicine. The health educators function as team members dedicated to the development and implementation of campus health education efforts. The health educator is responsible for the design, presentation, and evaluation of health education programs for local students and researches, writes and edits written health education materials appropriate for the general public.

QUALIFICATIONS:

1. Strong interest in preventive health

1. Excellent written and oral communication skills
2. Ability to handle a variety of tasks; use good time management skills
3. Previous experience with presentations
4. Flexible schedule. Able to work some evenings and weekends
5. Ability to work independently, be a "self-starter"
6. Not afraid to ask questions

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Conduct appropriate research for health programs utilizing various resources
• Plan and develop health education program outlines incorporating various learning techniques and formats (i.e. group discussion, lecture, role play, etc.)
• Develop and design promotion of health education events and programs; distribute throughout the community
• Present new and existing health education programs to the community as well as on local college campuses
• Assist in the design and utilization of program evaluation and needs assessment tools, work with various focus groups
• Participate in the development and design of passive health education programming
• Networking with professors and other campus professionals in creating opportunities conducive for health education programming and preventive health messages
• Assist in development and execution of various health awareness days/weeks throughout various community health programs, fairs and other events that fit into Needs Beyond Medicine’s goals.
• Perform all other duties as assigned or as the situation dictates
