he Neighborhood Preservation Coalition of New York State(NPCNYS) is a statewide membership organization of community-based, not-for-profit housing companies and other interested parties committed to revitalizing New York State’s neighborhoods. Located in Albany, NY, NPCNYS provides technical assistance to help groups with issues such as organizational development, strategic planning, contract compliance, and community assessments to its 143 Neighborhood Preservation Companies (NPCs), which are located in urban and suburban communities throughout New York State. For the purposes of this project, VISTA members will enhance regional collaboration among NPCs. VISTAs will develop and implement outreach campaigns, write grant proposals, and organize community meetings and events in order to support the mission of the host and regional NPCs. Selected VISTA members will have excellent public speaking, presentation, and writing skills, and will be able to work effectively with diverse teams of people. Effective time management is a must, as the ability to prioritize and re-prioritize is the key to success in a fast-paced environment. Successful candidates will possess a two (2) years of relevant experience. Experience in community/campus organizing a plus. NPCNYS strongly encourages anyone with an interest in affordable housing, community economic development, and public health to apply. This project represents an opportunity to create positive change in historically underserved communities by empowering community-based organizations and residents. Selected candidates will have the opportunity to learn about nonprofit management and governance, attend community, regional, and statewide training and networking events, and develop and grow their professional networks.

Member Duties : Identify areas for regional NPC coordination/collaboration; Create outreach plan for regional NPCs; Develop grant and outreach calendars; Develop grant proposals to support outreach plan; Develop program materials and performance measures; identify community partners; Train relevant staff on outreach and grant writing processes to ensure sustainability. Skills: Public speaking and presentation skills; Highly organized, analytical, and IT-competent; Ability to work independently and as part of a diverse team; Strong writing skills; Ability to manage time and competing priorities effectively.

Stipend: $472.22 paid bi-weekly
