Title: Shelter Volunteer
Location: Orange, CA
Classification: Heart of Compassion

Purpose: Mercy House is looking for volunteers to assist at the HomeAid Family CareCenter (operated by Mercy House). The purpose of the HomeAid Family CareCenter is to provide safe shelter for homeless families with dependent minor children. In addition, the shelter provides clients to case management with a Housing Stabilization Specialist, access to meals, resources, and access to service providers for resources.
Volunteers must be willing to do all the following tasks:
Major Duties
1. Greet Clients - Check in
2. Assist with serving dinner
3. Set out snacks and drinks
a. Prepare Coffee
b. Prepare Cold Drinks
4. Pass out hygiene clients
5. Light cleaning - wiping down tables, sweeping, taking out trash, mopping
6. Organize and pass out donations
Reports to: Mercy House Staff: Site Leader and Program Manager
Time Commitment: Volunteers are needed 7 days per week. We ask that volunteers make a weekly commitment, if possible. We offer a morning and evening shift. We ask that volunteers who sign up serve the entire shift.
Shift times:
 Morning Shift: 6 am - 8 am, 2 volunteers needed
 Evening Shift: 5 pm - 8 pm, 5 volunteers needed
Skills and Qualifications: Must be very reliable, have good communication skills, ability to bend, squat, lift at least 50lbs, must be willing to volunteer and interact with people who come from different backgrounds, life styles and be open to adapting to shelter needs.
Age Restriction: The minimum age to volunteer at the HomeAid Family CareCenter is 13 years old with a parent/guardian who is also signed up to serve on the same shift.
Benefit to Volunteer: Recommendation letters, human services on-the-job experience, and the knowledge that you have given back to your community and are helping to make your corner of the world a better place.
