Make a big impact on the environment and the health of the community by joining the Food Recovery Team. This group of volunteers rescues wholesome, untouched food (e.g., milk, yogurt, fruit, snacks) from local public school cafeterias and redistributes it to neighbors in need.
Last year we rescued over 2000 pounds of food and we are expanding the number of schools we serve this year.
Food recovery takes place on Fridays from 12:45 to 2:00 pm in Newburyport. Light lifting is required.
Join us every week, every other week or once a month.

Description
At NNS, we are growing food, community and relationships so that everyone has enough food and eats well. We are dedicated to supporting the health of our community, the environment and local growers by strengthening our connections with each other and the food we eat. Our programs include VegOut (fresh produce access and distribution program), "Pitch In" volunteer teams, food recovery, community events and garden-based education. All of our programs support healthy eating, local farms, and community building. We are committed to breaking down the barriers to healthy eating presented by traditional food sourcing.
