The Animal Protection Society of Durham is responsible for operating emergency animal shelters during natural disasters. These shelters are available for people and their pets who are seeking shelter during a natural disaster, such as a hurricane or snowstorm.
We want people to be able to reach the safety of a shelter, without leaving their pets at home.
We are seeking volunteers who are willing and able to assist with setting up and operating the shelter. We were ready had Irma come to North Carolina. In the wake of Harvey and Irma and their devastation, we are recruiting volunteers ahead of winter storms.
The nature of emergency sheltering is unpredictable and often last minute. When severe weather is predicted, we are on alert and ready for the call to action. Volunteers are expected to be on-call and available when the shelter is needed. Locations are arranged once damage has been evaluated.
We are able to assist with providing rides in a snow storm, for example, but we need volunteers who are reliable and ready to assist when they receive a call.
This type of volunteer role needs a special person with a big heart for animals and people alike. Are you calm under pressure and ready to welcome those in need?
