About us: As a chapter of Slow Food USA, Slow Food Madison strives to bring people together to enjoy the pleasures of life while promoting and sustaining the producers of good, clean and fair food and beverages within southern Wisconsin.
About the project: We host a community meal during the Goodman Community Center's Food Pantry every Wednesday evening. We welcome volunteers with all levels of culinary skills to help prepare and serve about 40-70 people each week. This is a great opportunity to hone your cooking skills and share a meal with your community!
Time: The full shift runs from 5pm until 8pm. Meal prep and cooking happen from 5-6:30, meal service is from 6:30-7:30, and clean-up is from 6:30-8.
Key Responsibilities:
- Preparing food ingredients in various ways (chopping, peeling, washing, dicing, blending, etc)
- Creating dishes (cooking, baking)
- Serving food to guests and joining diners to enjoy the meal
- Washing dishes
- Kitchen clean-up duties (sweeping, mopping, taking out trash)
