Mission Statement

RSD/CRPS is the #1 most painful, debilitating disease known. Part of the greater health crisis of chronic pain, this neuropathic disorder is far too often undiagnosed, misdiagnosed, and under-diagnosed, increasing various complications, severity, and financial and physical burdens of this crisis for the individual, the caregiver, and the health care community. The USC Pain Center's Quench the Fire event exists - and persists - to continue our forward momentum and groundbreaking work including studies in chronic pain genetic research and treatment responses, a pilot study of a new RSD/CRPS-specific compound, and doctor/patient pain communication research, and we are committed to continue lending a voice to the RSD/CRPS community.

Description

Each year The Pain Center of the University of Southern California holds the Quench the Fire 5K/10K Run~Walk~Roll in Los Angeles to raise awareness, support community outreach/education, and to provide funds to further research and management options for RSD/CRPS and neuropathic chronic pain diseases. It's a true grassroots effort in taking steps for chronic pain.

USC's Quench the Fire event is the largest of its kind on the West Coast, and we welcome participants from all over the country each year. Not only do we raise much-needed awareness for this debilitating disease and other neuropathic chronic pain conditions, we emphasize healthy living choices, alternative and complementary treatment options for the chronic pain community, and include students and health professionals as part of our outreach efforts, actively connects patients and their family/caregivers with medical providers, national pain advocacy organizations, and other chronic pain patients with whom they can support and unite. Individuals suffering from chronic pain may find support from on-site physicians, pharmaceutical companies, other health care related businesses, various pain-related support groups, our internet network and USC Chronic Pain Support Circle.

Our annual event includes a 10K Run, 5K Run/Walk/Roll, 1 Mile Fun Walk, and Kids' Fun Run, has various exhibitors, live music, a Chronic Pain Information Station, free healthy goodies, national pain organizations, prize drawing, and more.
