The Survivor and Caregivers Lead recruits, recognizes and engages cancer survivors and caregivers from within the community.
Individuals in this role will use recruitment resources and tools to be able to clearly communicate the benefits of getting involved with the American Cancer Society and the Relay For Life event. Individuals in this role will develop relationships with and serve as the primary contact for survivors, caregivers, and organizations that serve or interact with large numbers of survivors and caregivers.
Individuals are specifically responsible for the survivor and caregiver experience on the day of the event. You will decorate, get food donations, get donations for and put together goodie bags. You will also help put together meaningful and powerful ceremonies to celebrate and recognize survivors and caregivers.
This is a long term volunteer opportunity. We plan the event and have various other events throughout the year. There are monthly meetings - usually 2 that are 1 hour each. The American Cancer Society has been involved in many of the cancer research breakthroughs; we dedicate a lot of time and money to cancer research. The American Cancer Society also offers several programs to cancer patients, aiming to improve their quality of life - our Quality of Life centers are volunteer-staffed and provide cancer patients with free wigs and other items.
