JavaScript Code Reviewer Needed

Looking to contribute your tech chops to empowering youth to heal from trauma? Help us make sure our web app is robust and scalable by doing code reviews.

At MindRight, http://getmindright.org/ , we provide mental health coaching over text message to teens impacted by trauma from systemic violence, poverty, and discrimination. We train volunteers to serve as coaches, who support teens via text message over our web app. In the next year, we’re growing from serving 50 students on our web app to 500.

We’re looking for someone who is a JavaScript developer with 5+ years of experience, and has proficiency in MongoDB, Angular, React, and Express.js. This individual will conduct weekly code reviews (3-4 hours/week) and hold a weekly or biweekly call with our developer. As our code reviewer, you’ll directly advise our lead developer, a full-stack engineer from Andela. You’ll contribute to our organization’s mission and our developer’s growth.

Mission Statement

Our mission is to empower youth of color to heal from trauma from systemic oppression.

Description

We provide personalized, on-demand mental health coaching over text message to high school students impacted by trauma from poverty, violence, mass incarceration, and systemic oppression. Our coaches check in with youth daily - reaching them before, during, and after moments of crisis. Our coaches guide students in building positive coping skills rooted in evidence-based practices such as trauma-focused cognitive behavioral therapy and mindfulness.

" Everyone goes through stuff, and some people shut down like I would have. [MindRight] helps me get back up again. " - MindRight user, Newark, NJ

We have served 90 students since our launch in 2016 by partnering with schools and nonprofits in Washington, DC, Camden, NJ, Newark, NJ, and Philadelphia, PA. Our work is guided by clinical advisors at the Stanford Lucile Packard Hospital and the USC School of Social Work. Through our service, we're making mental health support accessible to the 20 million children living in poverty in the U.S.
