Following Hurricane Harvey, Houston Pets Alive set up a temporary shelter, in collaboration with Austin Pets Alive and Best Friends Animal Society to intake animals displaced in the storm. Houston Pets Alive! is now transitioning the shelter from a disaster relief, temporary shelter into a permanent shelter with the goal of making Houston a no-kill city. As a result, we pull dogs and cats daily of the euthanasia lists from local shelters.
We are looking for volunteers to help out at the shelter 7 days a week. Jobs include general dog and cat handling and shelter housekeeping. If you want to volunteer with us, please skip the volunteer interest form here and go straight to our website to fill out an official volunteer application. You can find it here: https://www.houstonpetsalive.org/volunteer-application/.
We especially need help during the weekdays. Early morning and evening shifts require the most people for dog walking and cleaning.
Interested in setting up a group volunteer experience for your employees, organization, etc.? Send us an email at email@example.com!
Thank you so much and we look forward to working with you!
Please note our age policy:
Volunteers 12 - 17 years old are welcome to volunteer when accompanied by a parent or legal guardian. The parent or legal guardian must fill out a volunteer application with the minor.
Volunteers must be 14 years or older to directly interact with the cats and 18 years or older to directly interact with the dogs. However, for volunteers under those age ranges, there is still plenty to do! Minors 12+ are welcome to assist with crate cleaning, bowl washing, laundry, making enrichment toys or a variety of other projects.
