Major Functions of the Board of Directors
v Articulate Haven Hill’s mission and purpose
Mission: Haven Hills provides safety, shelter, and support to all victims of domestic violence while working to break the cycle of abuse. We save lives, inspire change, and transform victims to empowered survivors.
v Support Haven Hills’ commitment to bring about societal change through public policy advocacy.
v Select Executive Director and evaluate her/his performance.
v Establish short and long range goals for Haven Hills.
v Ensure adequate resources.
v Enhance Haven Hills’ public standing.
v Recruit and orient new Board Members and evaluate Board performance.
Board Members Expectations
v Respect, uphold and model the organization’s bylaws, process, values, and commitments.
v Support and participate in fundraising activities established in the annual Development Plan and use proven, staff-assisted resources.
v Serve on a Board Committee.
v Attend approximately six Board meetings and six Board committee meetings during the fiscal year.
v Interpret Haven Hills’ work and values to the community.
v Represent Haven Hills at public functions as assigned by the Board President.
v Attend the annual Board retreat, where training, guidance and planning for the year takes place.
v Excuse herself/himself from discussion and voting on an issue where a conflict of interest exists.
Estimated Time Commitment
v Activities related to Board membership require on average no more than five hours a month.
v Board meetings are scheduled from 4:00 pm - 6:00 pm on the third Wednesday of alternate months. The Board meets at the Service Center.
v Committee meetings are generally planned for those months when the Board does not meet. They also last about two hours. Time and place selected for the convenience of the committee members.

Haven Hills provides safety and support to victims of domestic violence while working to break the cycle of abuse. We offer shelter, crisis intervention, counseling and advocacy to victims primarily in the San Fernando Valley of Los Angeles. We endeavor to increase community awareness about domestic violence issues and bring about societal change through education and public policy advocacy.
Description
Haven Hills provides a variety of services for survivors of domestic violence including a crisis hotline, an emergency response team, emergency shelter, transitional housing, a teen program, and community outreach.
