We have exciting news happening here at Junior Achievement! We have enrolled over 40 of St. Louis Public Schools’ elementary schools for fall visits to JA BizTown! We are thrilled to have such a positive impact on an estimated 1700 students!! We hope that you will be able to join us in our volunteer efforts. Our number of volunteer needs is ever-changing, so please contact Jessica at jkichura@jastl.org to register for a visit day that works best with your schedule.

About JA BizTown:

Elementary school students are not old enough to drive, work, or vote. That doesn't stop them from operating banks, managing businesses, writing checks, investing in stocks, and earning a profit at JA BizTown!

The Donald O. Schnuck JA BizTown is a mini-city in which kids discover how the "real world" works. Each day, about 100 fifth or sixth graders become JA BizTown "citizens" where they work in one of 17 businesses, make financial decisions, pay taxes, and donate to charity. After four weeks of classroom lessons, students come to JA BizTown for the learning experience of their lives! Each citizen has a job for the day, gets paid twice, manages a checking account, shops, gets health check-ups, may be interviewed on TV, and much more. The time spent at JA BizTown may be only one day, but the impact that this experiential learning provides will last a lifetime!

JA BizTown introduces students to the free enterprise using an experiential educational approach. Every student learns economic concepts related to banking, business, citizenship, competition, work-readiness, quality, ethics, and competition. Students begin and end the day at JA BizTown with a Town Meeting. You won’t want to miss the great speeches by the Mayor, business CFOs, and many others at the end of the day!

Mission Statement

Junior Achievement of Greater St. Louis, Inc. will ensure that every child in the St. Louis area has a fundamental understanding of the free enterprise system.

Description

Since 1943, Junior Achievement of Greater St. Louis has been providing economic education to students throughout the St. Louis Metropolitan and surrounding areas. Junior Achievement provides hands-on activities that supplement and reinforce the regular classroom curriculum. Junior Achievement's programs empower students by inspiring and preparing them to succeed in a global economy.

Junior Achievement offers vital sequential learning programs to grades K-12 taught in their school classrooms by trained volunteers, like yourself, from the local community. These volunteers serve as role models to the kids, teaching them how to succeed in life through a quality education and responsible personal finance.

The Junior Achievement offices are located at the Dennis & Judy Jones Free Enterprise Center in Chesterfield Valley. Dedicated in May of 2004, The Center also houses JA's two Capstone Programs for grades 5-6 and 8-12. Here, students learn in an interactive environment, developing a comprehensive understanding of how the free enterprise system works.
