Volunteer for Trails this year on National Public Lands Day!

The Washington Trails Association and the Mount St. Helens Institute are partnering to host a volunteer trail work party on on the June Lake Trail, a beloved spot on the southside of Mount St. Helens. Although unscathed by the 1980 eruption, the June Lake Trail offers a glimpse of the mountain's volcanic power. At its end a small lake and waterfall formed by an ancient lava flow is a nice, short dayhike destination. Beyond the lake the trail links to the Loowit Trail that circumnavigates the mountain near treeline.

Lend a hand repairing a popular family friendly hike to charming June Lake. We'll be restoring much needed drainage structures no experience necessary!

The loose soils and lay out of the trail mean that it is susceptible to erosion. Our crew will work on installing and rebuilding drainage structures like water bars, drain dips and check dams to divert or slow the speed of water to minimize erosion. Never built a drainage structure before? No Problem! We'll teach you.
