Do you love animals? Do you also love people? If so, Animal Protection Society of Durham is looking for you!
APS of Durham is in need of fun, outgoing and dedicated outreach and event volunteers, to help with community events throughout the Triangle. We are looking for a key group of people who can take leadership of our community events, ensuring coverage at each of our events, and preparing materials for the events each week. Ideally we’d want this core group of volunteers to take ownership of their roles, training new outreach and event volunteers, and also brainstorming with the development department on new, exciting ways to raise awareness of APS programs, and increase donations.
The purpose of an outreach event volunteer is to represent APS at events, managing the APS booth/table, answering questions, and promoting our services and programs. Some events are more interactive than others, and will involve event attendees spinning our APS Prize Wheel, answering a cat, dog or APS question to win a prize. Others will be more hands-on with event attendees, such as an arts and craft activity for children attending the event.
Some of our events are strictly outreach, and the others include our APS information table, along with adoptable APS cats or dogs - sometimes both! The safety of our animals at events is the number one priority for our dog or cat handlers, and the animal handler’s focus needs to be on the animal at all times - which is why having dedicated outreach and event volunteers is so important.
Other ways you can get involved as an outreach and event volunteer include leading/assisting with group tours and presentations at APS, visiting schools and businesses for presentations, and leading/assisting birthday parties at APS.
If you are interested in joining our outreach and events volunteer team, please send an email to Shelley Smith at events@apsofdurham.org, and also fill out an APS volunteer application at http://www.apsofdurham.org/how-you-can-help/volunteer/.
