ORGANIZATION: Social Impact Media Awards (SIMA)

We are looking for a highly organized and self-motivated communication intern to conduct research and maintain outreach correspondence for film projects, advocacy campaigns and social media platforms. Candidates must be social media savvy, proficient in Google Docs and Microsoft Excel, have excellent research and communication skills and a strong interest in documentary, impact media, human rights and advocacy.

Requirements:

  • Excellent research, writing, administration and communication skills
  • Fluent social media ninja with experience using Facebook, Twitter, GooglePlus, Linkedin, Instagram and Pinterest Ability to multitask and independently organize workflow
  • Proficiency in Google Docs
  • Be forward-thinking and well-spoken
  • Ability to work efficiently and independently Ability to give input and collaborate on ideas Strong interest in global social justice, documentaries, and education
  • Experience working in the education, media, non-profit sector is a plus

Responsibilities:
  • Source content for editorial calendar
  • Assist in educational film program research and outreach
  • Identify and research leading social influencers in documentary, education and development
  • Assist in outreach and planning for Los Angeles events and press
  • Write and track outreach correspondence
  • Conduct research for film projects and international advocacy campaigns
  • Assist Producers and Communications Manager on marketing and strategic impact projects

Time Commitment:
  • 3 months minimum required. Work in office minimum 2 days a week 11am-5pm
Unpaid internship with benefits such as:
  • Opportunity to learn with a non-profit/ film festival/ advocacy organization
  • Build contacts in the independent film/ media/ educational/ humanitarian/ human rights sector
  • Each intern will be required to work on a project during their internship. This can be anything from a short documentary to an advocacy campaign - if it sets your soul on fire, we want to help it come into fruition and will mentor your project throughout your time with us. More importantly, you will get a platform to graduate your passion from ideation to creation.

The Social Impact Media Awards (SIMA) started as the first documentary and educational media competition honoring members of both the independent film and global humanitarian industries. We set out to propel and elevate social-impact filmmaking that inspires crucial perspectives and demonstrates unique potential to enlighten, transform, and positively impact our contemporary world. Over the years, we developed global community engagement programs: SIMAx and SIMA RAMA,a ground-breaking education program, SIMA Classroom,and an ever expanding film catalogue, The SIMA Collection. Through the annual SIMA AWARDS and year-round FILM PROGRAMS, we provide a catalyst for these important works, and serve as a media reserve for educators, journalists and screening partners around the globe.
