YES offers youth from Dorchester, Mattapan, and Roxbury adventure programming year-round. The success of the YES ski & snowboard program each winter is dependent upon the hard work and support of around 150 adult volunteers.
This high commitment volunteer opportunity asks volunteers to:
- Work in the YES rental shop (South End) 3-4 nights per month from 6-9pm from December to March. Fitting youth for rental equipment, and caring for inventory (48 hrs)
- Attend a ski/snowboard training weekend in December or January - fees are associated but are discounted and can be waived based on circumstances (16 hrs)
- Instruct 3 learn-to- ski, snowboard, and nordic ski classes with youth from Boston 8-18 years old throughout the winter (36 hrs).
YES is focused on the inclusion of diverse volunteers. While experience skiing or snowboarding and in sports-based youth development is helpful, those volunteers without that experience will be welcomed and trained to be able to teach a beginner lesson alongside a more experienced volunteer.
Consider giving back to the community by sharing outdoor experiences and creating relationships with youth who would otherwise not have the opportunity. The YES volunteer group is like a family, supporting each other and creating lasting friendships. Although this may be one of the more committing volunteer opportunities in Boston, it is absolutely one of the most rewarding and fun volunteer opportunities!
Here's the application, the deadline to apply is November 16th:
