Mission Statement
The Second Step is a community of survivors, advocates, and volunteers who foster the safety, stability, and well-being of those who have experienced domestic violence. We provide comprehensive services, including safety planning, legal advocacy, counseling, peer support, transitional housing, and other essential services to adults, youth, and children in Greater Boston and MetroWest.
Description
The Second Step partners with survivors of domestic violence to address the aftermath of abuse. TSS programs include:
Residential: Two transitional residences, housing up to 58 survivors. Clients come to us from emergency shelters, and receive comprehensive services. Our Afterschool program provides survivors' children with academic and therapeutic support, and a chance to begin to heal.
Community: TSS provides services to over 300 adults & 500 children each year, including safety planning, case management, education, and mentoring.
Steps to Justice: Our attorneys provide legal services to DV survivors, including assistance with restraining orders, child custody and support, guardianship, immigration, benefits and housing.
Youth & Prevention: Focuses on outreach & education as part of a larger emphasis on violence prevention. We provide education about DV and dating violence. We also operate groups for teens who have been exposed to DV.
