Prepare + Prosper (P+P) provides free tax assistance and financial services to low income Minnesotans. We need you to help us provide these services to help people move from "getting by" to "getting ahead"!
What will I be doing as a FINANCIAL ADVOCATE?
The financial advocate (FA) strives to help customers boost their financial knowledge, confidence and habits. The financial advocate will work one-on-one with customers at Prepare + Prosper’s (P+P) tax clinics to discuss their individual financial goals, and to offer support and access to applicable financial products, services, and referrals with a focus on saving. Background in finances is not required; we will train you to be successful in your role!
General time commitment:
We are currently looking for volunteers to help us in our summer tax clinics that run June 4 - October 19, 2019. Steps to becoming a summer volunteer:
- Attend an info session to learn about the organization, volunteer role, and impact in our community. Info sessions will be held on May 4 (9 - 10:30 am), May 7 (6 - 7:30 pm), and May 9 (6 - 7:30 pm).
- Complete the required in-person training.
- Volunteer one, 4-hour shift per week from June 4 through August 15, plus one Saturday a month. Additional opportunities to volunteer will be available after August 15 and into October.

Role and responsibilities:
- Help participants gain clarity and develop action steps designed to achieve their financial goals
- Offer support, resources, and encouragement to guide customers to their own answers
- Process prepaid debit cards, credit reports, U.S. savings bonds and savings accounts
Skills required:
- Ability to respect customers’ financial decisions and actions without judgement
- An engaging personality and ability to connect with customers
- Enjoy working in a diverse ethnic and socio-economic environment
- Empathetic and understanding of the financial challenges facing low-income adults
- Experience with financial services such as financial education or counseling helpful, but not required!

Prepare + Prosper, formerly known as AccountAbility Minnesota, assists Minnesotans to move out of poverty by providing pathways to increase income, build assets and become financially secure, and by advocating for change that breaks down barriers to financial success.
Description
For 45 years, P+P has provided free tax and financial services to low- and moderate-income taxpayers. We facilitate economic security by helping many of the people we serve use their tax refunds to help them meet basic needs, build credit, and save.
Leveraging the support of more than 550 volunteers, we prepare taxes and offer financial services to thousands of Minnesotans via free clinics around the Twin Cities. In addition to ensuring that our customers claim all the tax credits they earned, we address the "money moment" of tax time connecting people to financial services that create pathways to economic security.
With the support of staff, our volunteers work cooperatively at our free tax clinics and are the core of our ability to provide these services in our community each year.
