Join one of our informal, English Conversation Circles (ECC) at various Seattle Public Library (SPL) locations or online. These programs provide immigrants and refugees the opportunity to practice conversational English in an informal environment. Conversation Partners help lead fun, small-group discussions on various topics that volunteers help plan in advance and work with English for Speakers of Other Language (ESOL) adults of all skill levels. Develop cross-cultural friendships and learn new skills while making a difference in your community!

Good verbal communication and interpersonal skills in a diverse environment are desired. ECC's are held in-person at the Literacy Source center, Beacon Hill, Delridge and Northgate branches, and online circles at the Literacy Source center and the Central branches of the SPL.

Bilingualism and/or experience working with adult immigrants and/or refugees is a plus.

Training and support will be provided.

Literacy Source is an equal opportunity employer working towards a culturally diverse workplace. We strongly encourage applications from the BIPOC community, immigrants, refugees, women, people with disabilities, members of the LBGTQ community and other underrepresented and historically marginalized groups.

About Literacy Source

Location:

3200 NE 125th ST, Seattle, WA 98125, US

Mission Statement

Literacy Source partners with adults working to gain skills and education to create new opportunities for themselves, their families, and the community. We envision an inclusive and equitable society providing education and opportunities for all adults. We believe that all adults can improve their basic skills and that community volunteers, trained and supported by professional staff, can work with students to make this happen. We welcome the challenge of developing the habit of independent lifelong learning. The Literacy Source story unfolds each day at our center - and in homes, community centers, and workplaces around Seattle and the Puget Sound region - as adult learners work towards literacy, English language skills, citizenship, better jobs, and better lives. Our students range in age from 19 to 86, and speak 41 languages. 97% of our students are low-income and 96% are immigrants or refugees.

Description

Literacy Source is a safe and community-centered environment, working to become a fully inclusive, multicultural, anti-racist organization. Commitment from our volunteers to this work is essential and we strongly encourage applications from people of color, immigrants, refugees, women, people with disabilities, members of the LBGTQ community and other underrepresented and historically marginalized groups.
