Liberty's Promise (www.libertyspromise.org) is a nonprofit dedicated to supporting low-income, immigrant youth, ages 15-21, through our after-school civic engagement programs and professional internship programs. We are currently seeking a finance volunteer for our main office located at 2900-A Jefferson Davis Highway, Alexandria, VA 22305. The chosen candidate will manage the finances of a small non-profit and will gain a unique insight into how a small nonprofit works from day-to-day. He/she will be regarded as a core member of our team. The position is open until filled.
Position Responsibilities
Your responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:
- Managing employee expense reports
- Assisting with organizational and project budgets
- Managing financial requirements for grants
- Maintaining internal system and controls
- Creating and managing Excel and QuickBooks entries
- Bookkeeping knowledge or experience required
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel
- Experience using QuickBooks
- Comfortable working both individually and on a team
- Ability to prioritize and handle a variety of projects simultaneously

Description
The activitiies of Liberty's Promise center on civic engagement and professional internship placements for low-income, immigrant youth. Our 30-hour civic engagement program is a fun, interactive look at American community life. Through field trips to the courthouse, county government offices, and other sites, students gain first-hand knowledge of civic life and the benefits of civic participation.
In conjunction with the civics program, Liberty's Promise administers a professional internship program for young immigrants in pursuit of a fulfilling career. Liberty's Promise collaborates with government agencies, businesses, and nonprofit organizations to offer young immigrants eight-week internships in their field of interest. Youth who have completed the civics course are given priority for internship placements.
