The Multnomah County District Attorney Victim Assistance Program is currently looking for dedicated and compassionate community members to join our volunteer Sexual Assault Victim Advocate team! The role of a Sexual Assault Victim Advocate (SAVA) is to provide support, resources and information to survivors of sexual assault during the forensic medical examination and law enforcement interviews. SAVAs meet with law enforcement and the sexual assault survivor at local hospitals and medical facilities. The purpose of the hospital response is two-fold: to ensure the physical well-being of the survivor and to collect forensic evidence that may be present. Our SAVAs are a critical part of our program's ability to support and serve victims during an often traumatic and stressful time in their lives.
All potential volunteers must complete a volunteer application, attend the comprehensive and free MCDA 40 hour SAVA training and participate in an interview. Our next training opportunity will be held April 10th - 28th 2018. Training sessions will be held at the Multnomah County Courthouse in downtown Portland on Tuesday/Thursday evenings and all day Saturdays.

Description
The primary goal of the Victim Assistance Program is to make the criminal justice system more responsive to individual citizens, particularly victims of crime. A primary concern of the District Attorney's Office is to ensure crime victims a meaningful role in the criminal and juvenile justice system and to accord them due dignity and respect. To this end, it is the philosophy of the office that every effort be made to maximize victim involvement at every possible stage of a criminal case. The office is committed to full implantation of Victims Rights as embodied in Oregon law.
