The Multnomah County District Attorney Victim Assistance Program is currently looking for dedicated and compassionate community members to join our volunteer Sexual Assault Victim Advocate team! The role of a Sexual Assault Victim Advocate (SAVA) is to provide support, resources and information to survivors of sexual assault during the forensic medical examination and law enforcement interviews. SAVAs meet with law enforcement and the sexual assault survivor at local hospitals and medical facilities. The purpose of the hospital response is two-fold: to ensure the physical well-being of the survivor and to collect forensic evidence that may be present. Our SAVAs are a critical part of our program's ability to support and serve victims during an often traumatic and stressful time in their lives.
All potential volunteers must complete a volunteer application, attend the comprehensive and free MCDA 40 hour SAVA training and participate in an interview. Training starts October 9th through October 26th. Training sessions will be held each week Monday through Thursday from 6-9pm at the Multnomah County Courthouse in downtown Portland.
Applications are due by September 29th. For further information or questions, please contact Kim Phillips, Volunteer Coordinator, at 503-988-3017 or kim.Phillips@mcda.us. We look forward to hearing from you!
