Mr. P, a member of the Screen Actor’s Guild, has many stories from his interesting career in entertainment. Be the lucky volunteer who gets to visit Mr. P and enjoy each other’s company.
This opportunity is through Encore Community Service’s Friendly Visiting Program. We matches seniors in the community with volunteers who visit them every week to chat and enjoy the company, take part in activities like going to cafes and museums, share stories, learn new skills, and a variety of other things based on the desires of the companions.
We ask for a minimum commitment of weekly hour-long visits for a period of at least six months. There is a short orientation for this program.

To provide care and service to the elderly at the Clinton/Times Square/Midtown communities; to assist those who are vulnerable and frail, poor and homeless, homebound and lonely, frequently desperate, most often ignored; to help them with their daily needs, that they might live as independently as possible with dignity and decency in a safe and caring environment. Encore hopes to improve the quality of an older person's life in an approach that emanates from the core of Encore's commitment. Description
Encore Community Services is a multi-purpose, not-for-profit, nonsectarian agency serving the needs of poor, frail, homebound, mentally impaired and homeless elderly. Founded in 1977, Encore provides services to more than 14,000 elderly men and women annually. Services include: congregate, home-delivered & weekend meals, shop & escort service, friendly visiting, holiday meals, educational & recreational activities, telephone assurance, health & social services counseling, supportive housing for formerly homeless and mentally impaired eldely. These services are provided at the Encore 49 Residence and Encore Senior Center, located at St. Malachy's, The Actors' Chapel.
